Getting to Know Mrs. Peterson
Hello and welcome to my classroom website!
My name is Kelly Peterson, and I am a Kindergarten Teacher in St. Charles, MO at Central Elementary School. This is my TWELFTH year teaching kindergarten in the Francis Howell School District!!! I have Bachelors of Arts Degrees in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, and a Master's Degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University. I have also pursued 30 additional credit hours in assertive discipline and behavior management.
I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching this age group, as it fits my personality and hobbies extremely well. I challenge myself each year to create a classroom that feels more like a family of friends, rather than a group of kids thrown together in a room. It is extremely important to me that each child feels safe, cared for, valued, and respected. Our Jungle Room theme allows my class to feel like they are a 'part of something,' and they are known as 'jungle kids' around our school. This feeling of belonging and family allows me to operate my classroom on a sense of accountability for our actions and respect towards one another.
I have learned these core values from my own family and life experiences through the years. Unfortunately, my family has spread all across the country (Mom-Missouri, Dad-Florida, Brother (Kris) and Nieces (Grace 12yrs, Faith 8yrs)-Indiana), and I make an effort to visit them as often as I can during the school year. Besides visiting family, I thoroughly enjoy traveling to various locations, such as Colorado, Chicago, and the Caribbean. One of my favorites is a horse ranch in Ava, MO. I have a passion for horses, and look forward to owning my own farm and horses one day. I also enjoy spending time in the flower beds around my house, and in the local landscaping and garden centers. Although my green thumb, doesn't always prove to be 'green,' I love nature and the beauty it provides all around us (hence the Jungle theme : )
Additionally, my husband and I are proud parents! Our son, Landon (5 yrs) is curious, energetic, VERY active, but sweet and snuggly at the same time. We are hoping he will follow in our footsteps and be a successful athlete down the road : ) Our second addition, Anabelle (4 yrs), is a ball of energy, with attitude, and a strong will! They have truly been a blessing in our lives!
So as you can see, I am not just a teacher. Although, I love being a teacher and helping my students learn, I also enjoy other parts of my life. I make visiting my family and taking time for my marriage a priority in my life, in addition to being the best teacher I can be!
